Twelve post offices have been closed in the Devizes Constituency since 1999 leaving only thirty-three to serve local residents. This poor state of service reflects the national situation caused by the lack of support from both Conservative and Labour governments.
Peggy Dow has won one of the two seats in Marlborough East for Kennet District Council. Peggy becomes Councillor for the seat that was previously held by Liberal Democrat Bill Cavill.
Five Liberal Democrat candidates have succeeded in winning seats on Marlborough Town Council.
The three Salisbury District Council seats in Durrington have been won by Liberal Democrats Jo Broom, Martin Lee and Graham Wright. All three seats were previously held by the Conservatives and are indicative of an overall campaign that saw the Tories lose control of the District Council.
Youth shelters are becoming more popular around the country. The idea is that young people have their own space in an area that has been agreed by the community. Youngsters hanging around bus stops and convenience shops can be intimidating for many people. We want to work with local people to see if a youth shelter would work in Devizes.
