Call on New Prime Minister to address problems in Devizes

28 Jun 2007

Gordon Brown is being urged to address a list of problems affecting Devizes by Liberal Democrats as he takes over as Prime Minister.

In a message to residents of the area, Wendy Johnson Parliamentary Spokesman for Devizes, said,

"Our area has seen the loss of 12 Post Offices in recent years, our roads are congested, housing is too expensive for thousands of young people and couples and hundreds of elderly people are missing out on pensions credits because the system is too complicated.

"Many of these problems were either the direct responsibility of Gordon Brown as Chancellor, or indirectly caused by him and his policies.

"Now that he is Prime Minister, Liberal Democrats are calling on Mr Brown to sort out these problem affecting Devizes. My fear is, however, that the replacement of Tony Blair by Gordon Brown will not lead to a fresh start. Instead, having dominated the Government for the past 10 years, little will change and the problems he has failed to address or made worse will continue."
