My Open Letter To Danny Kruger, Devizes MP
Dear Mr Kruger,
As public figures, neither yourself nor the Prime Minister should allow loyalty to a friend and colleague to cloud your judgement concerning reports that the Prime Minister's Senior Adviser, Dominic Cummings, has wilfully disregarded the lockdown rules.
Poor decisions on this matter have real consequences; people will die unnecessarily in the weeks to come unless the clear message is re-established that it is unacceptable for symptomatic individuals to drive hundreds of miles across the country. It cannot be one rule for senior government officials and one rule for everyone else.
Many of your constituents are angry. Others are increasingly confused about what the rules really are. All of us are now divided at a time when it is vital that we continue to show the unity of purpose that has allowed our constituency to have amongst the lowest infection rates in the country.
Given the national crisis due to the coronavirus pandemic, I fear each minute the Prime Minister allows this scandal to drag on is another minute the Government is unable to give people clear, honest answers about why testing capacity is so low, why there is a lack of protective equipment for frontline workers, and why so many people are dying in care homes.
I therefore urge you to put the interests of your constituents first, end the distractions and join the growing number of Conservative MPs who are calling for Dominic Cummings to go.
I look forward to your response.
Yours sincerely,
Jo Waltham
