Introducing Karyn Perlejewski-Shah - the Liberal Democrat candidate for Devizes East Town Council election.
I love living in Devizes having moved here 20 years ago. My son Henry and daughter Verity both went to Wansdyke Primary and Devizes School. Verity is still there, studying hard for her A levels. She wants to be a doctor. Henry is in his second year at Southampton University.
I work as the Deputy Manager of Townsend Barn Nursery at Poulshot. In 2016 I graduated from Oxford Brookes University with a degree in Early Years Education and Development. It was a struggle working, studying and, as a single parent, making a home for my children but I'm very proud of this achievement.
I am also the Nursery's special educational needs co-ordinator. It is so important that children who need help get it as early as possible as this makes a big difference to their long term outcomes. Children's education is a passion of mine and I've have been involved in the Liberal Democrat campaigns to save Braeside and Rowdeford special school.
Family and friends have all said I will be the strong voice our area needs. I will work together with all the town councillors to demand better for the people of Devizes.
One key issue facing Devizes at the moment is the parking in Market Place - we need to maintain as much free parking as possible in order for local businesses to thrive. This matter needs to be taken back to Wiltshire Council now that the strong feelings of the people of the town are clear.
During my recent canvassing a number of people have discussed the issue of the potholes in the roads and the poor condition of the pavements in Devizes East. If elected, I will ensure to bring this matter to Wiltshire Council's attention.
I hope I will have your vote on the 21st of February.
