Decisive win for Lib Dems in Marlborough

6 Jun 2009

Former Town Mayor Peggy Dow (Liberal Democrat) took the Wiltshire Council seat for Marlborough East with margin of 250+ votes over her nearest Conservative rival.

"I am absolutely thrilled to have won. I want to thank everyone who voted for me - I will do my best to carry on serving our community as I have done for the past 10 years.

"I'm also want to thank the team who helped to get us there - they have worked so hard."

On a turnout of 40.8% the figures for the poll were:

Peggy Dow (Liberal Democrat) 636

Conservative (Marian Hannaford) 377

UKIP (Caroline Goodfellow) 159

Labour (Brian McClintock) 65

Peggy will join a group of 24 Liberal Democrats on the new Wiltshire Council. "I'm looking forward to representing the people of Marlborough at County Hall and working with the other Lib Dems elected today" said Peggy.
